Novel Beauty
Metals: Sterling Silver
Enameling
“Novel Beauty” reinterprets the noble elegance preserved through time from a contemporary jewelry perspective. Inspired by the delicate curves of lotus petals and the lightness of butterfly wings, the piece reflects harmony and order through its linear composition and wire structure reminiscent of traditional dancheong patterns. Layered enamel colors, rooted in the philosophy of obangsaek (the five traditional Korean hues), visualize the passage of time and the coexistence of tradition and modernity. The binyeo form, traditionally used as a hair ornament, embodies both Korean identity and an intimate connection between jewelry and the human body.
Created using the traditional cloisonné enameling technique, this work integrates copper wire to enhance contrast against silver and to connect vivid layers of color. Designed in Rhino and cast through precise metalworking, the piece bridges digital craftsmanship with ancestral techniques, expressing timeless beauty through a modern lens.
